ROXBURY, NJ (February 16, 2023) – Jefferson Elementary School’s Early Act Club, an extension of the Rotary Club that teaches students to give back to their community through service projects, raised money during this Valentine's season for Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown.

The Early Act Club, comprised of fourth-grade students, raised money during the last month by organizing Valentine’s Day Grams where families could purchase these grams for $5 each to send to their students at Jefferson School on Valentine’s Day.

“Jefferson’s Early Act Club members came up with the idea of fundraising for the children’s hospital by selling Valentine’s Day Grams to students. Students advertised with posters and morning announcements as well as with flyers sent home. Students also assembled all of the goodie bags and organized them by class,” shared club advisors Casey Hoopes and Katie Higgins.

Adding, “The treasurer and other officers counted our total, which ended up being $2,000! The Jefferson Early Act wrote a letter to accompany the donation and was proud to mail it off to Morristown.”

Early Act provides young students the opportunity to gain an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognizing the dignity and worth of each individual, which builds respect for others.

Early Act also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their school, local, and global communities.
