Mr. Matthew Mawn
Work Experience:
As an Assistant Principal and former Supervisor of Science, Engineering, Design, Technology, and Visual Arts for two years, I bring a diverse background in educational leadership and instructional development, with a strong focus on fostering student success and enhancing curriculum. My experience spans various roles in education, including nearly a decade at Edison Township Public Schools, where I provided guidance and resources that supported both student achievement and teacher development. I am dedicated to ensuring that students are not only engaged in their studies but also prepared for future success. Throughout my career, I have emphasized student-centered practices and innovative approaches to meet the evolving needs of our school community.
In addition to my administrative roles, I serve as an Adjunct Professor at Ramapo College, where I teach pre-service teacher courses, helping to prepare future educators. Working with aspiring teachers strengthens my commitment to high-quality education and allows me to share insights from my own experiences in leadership and instructional design. Across each role, I strive to create an environment where every student feels valued and supported on their journey toward lifelong learning and achievement.
Philosophy:
As a high school assistant principal, I believe the purpose of education is to create an environment that empowers students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for success beyond the classroom. My role in this mission is to support teachers, students, and families in building a school culture that values resilience and critical thinking.

In California, I taught physics and served as an Athletic Director at Oakland International High School. I am currently entering my 6th year as a building administrator. I served as a Vice Principal at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, CA, and most recently as a Vice Principal at Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, NJ. I am excited to be working at Roxbury High School this upcoming year!

I prioritize socioemotional learning alongside academic achievement. I strive to create a supportive environment for all stakeholders that values empathy, resilience, and self-awareness. Who I Am:
Growing up on a farm in Somerset County, NJ, I have always loved working with animals and the outdoors. I graduated from Somerville High School and stayed local for college receiving two undergraduate degrees from Rowan University and a graduate degree from Seton Hall University. When I’m working, I’m often out hiking or training my dog in scentwork.
