• Sports Med Club contract

     

    The Sports Medicine Club meets once per month after school. The meetings are typically held in the athletic training room or the Academy for Sports Medicine classroom. During the meetings, various topics in the field of Sports Medicine, such as nutrition, injury etiology, evaluations and treatment are discussed. In addition to the field of sports medicine, other allied health professions such as physical, occupational, and massage therapy, chiropractic medicine, podiatry and orthopedics are discussed via guest speakers. If students involved in the club are interested in gaining further knowledge, they are encouraged to observe what occurs in the Roxbury High School athletic training room as well as on the field during athletic contests. During their observations, they are taught basic first aid principles, taping and padding techniques as well as some injury evaluation techniques. At no time are they allowed to treat an athlete.

      We require a payment of $20 membership fee which will be used for the purchase of clothing for the students as well as any transportation fees that may be incurred for field trips.  Checks can be made out to: Roxbxury High School.  

      We also require that both the student and a guardian/parent sign a contract stating that the student will follow the terms of the club in order to receive credit for being a member.  Please click on the link listed above.

       
      In the past, the club has gone on field trips to various domains within the allied health professions. Some examples are as follows: Newark Hospital-trauma unit; Rutgers University’s Athletic Training facilities, Seton Hall University’s Athletic Training/Physical Therapy facilities.
