Absences from School
In order to have a consistent approach to the district Absentee Verification Program, we ask you to adhere to the following procedure if your child will be absent from school:- To report your child's absence- Prior to 9am on the day of the impending absence:
- You can input your child's absence on Genesis.
- Or you can call the point-of-contact listed below for your school, giving the reason for the absence:
- Please call your school's point-of-contact listed below prior to 9am at the phone number shown in order to report your child's absence. This will alleviate the general office phone traffic which is usually heavy at this time.
- There is also, for your convenience, an answering machine that is available 24 hours for each phone number shown below. You may leave a message on it if you wish to call anytime before school hours, or after school hours. Please still seek to call prior to 9am to report your child's absence:

Attendance Policy
In accordance with the requirements of New Jersey State Law and Administrative Code, students are expected to attend school every day that school is in session, and the responsibility for compliance belongs to the student and parent/guardian:
- Regular attendance and participation in classes are a vital and integral part of the learning process. Frequent absences from classroom learning experiences disrupt the continuity of the instructional process and limit the ability of the student to complete the prescribed curriculum requirements successfully. In addition, chronic absences reinforce a habit that will handicap the individual in future education or employment.
- Correspondingly, Roxbury High School has a very strictly enforced attendance policy. Please refer to the high school's Student Handbook to review this policy.

Health Screenings

The health screenings listed below shall be conducted by a school physician, school nurse, or other school personnel properly trained. The school district shall notify the parent of any student suspected of deviation from the recommended standard:
- Screening for height, weight, and blood pressure- shall be conducted annually for each student in Kindergarten through grade twelve.
- Screening for visual acuity-
- shall be conducted biennially for students in Kindergarten through grade ten.

- Screening for auditory acuity- shall be conducted annually for students in Kindergarten through grade three and in grades seven and eleven.
- Screening for scoliosis- shall be conducted biennially for students between the ages of ten and eighteen.

PE Classes (Gr. 7 - 8)
Physical Education Safety Rules for Eisenhower Middle School Students
Nurses' Excuses:
- Up to three day excuse (without a Doctor’s note)
- Student can bring a note to the nurse, written by the parent/guardian requesting no PE for the day
- Parent/guardian can email or call to notify the nurse
- Nurse will provide a pass for the student to give to their PE teacher
- The teacher will assign an alternative assignment to be completed in a designated classroom with a teacher present
- Excuse with a Doctor’s note
- Bring the doctor’s note to the nurse
- Nurse will notify PE staff and provide a pass for the student to give to their PE teacher
- Once cleared to return, bring the medical clearance note to the nurse
- Long term excuses - Doctor's notes should be updated monthly
- Up to three day excuse (without a Doctor’s note)

PE Classes (Gr. 9 - 12)
Physical Education Safety Rules for Roxbury High School Students
- Dress Code:
- T-shirts/Sweatshirts-
- These shirts should not have any inappropriate writing or designs on them
- Safety- For safety reasons, pockets, zippers, snaps, and/or buttons will not be accepted on T-shirts or Sweatshirts.
- Shorts/Sweatpants-
- They must be athletic type shorts and should not have any inappropriate writing or designs on them.
- Safety- For safety reasons, shorts and sweatpants with pockets, zippers, snaps, belt loops, Velcro, or buttons are not acceptable.
- Sneakers-
- Athletic type sneakers, which have a flat, bottom (no heels).
- Safety- Sneakers must be laced snugly and tied securely.
- The following footwear is not acceptable: hiking boots, platform sneakers, sneakers with heels, steel-toe sneakers, and clog sneakers (open back).
- Headwear- Headwear of any kind may not be worn in physical education or health classes (as per school policy).
- Jewelry- All jewelry must be removed prior to entering the gymnasium for class. This includes earrings, stud earrings, watches, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and anything else that the PE teacher considers a potential safety hazard.

- Nurses' Excuses:
- One day excuse (without a Doctor’s note)
- Change into your physical education clothes
- Ask your teacher for permission to see the nurse
- If the nurse excuses you, bring the pass back to the teacher immediately
- The teacher will assign an alternative written assignment to be completed in a designated classroom with a teacher present. The completed assignments must be handed back to the p.e. teacher by the end of the class period.
- Excuse with a Doctor’s note
- Bring the doctor’s note to the nurse
- Short term excuses (not to exceed 4 weeks) - you will be given an alternative written assignment that must be completed to earn a grade for time missed in class
- Long term excuses - the nurse may assign you to a study hall.Locker Room Security
- One day excuse (without a Doctor’s note)
- Guidance Appointments
- Change into your physical education clothes.
- Ask your teacher for permission to attend the appointment.
- You are responsible for all information presented in class.
- Tardy to Class
- Students should report to the main gym for attendance before the late bell rings.
- After attendance students have five minutes to change and return to the main gym.
- The locker room will be locked after students have changed. If you arrive after that, be sure you have a late pass.
- Tardies will count if you are late arriving to the main gym for attendance.
- Locker Room Security
- A gym locker is assigned to each student. Students should not share their locker or combination with other students.
- Students are required to use a school issued lock. Lock are distributed to all ninth grade and new students. Locks must be returned upon transfer or graduation.
- Students who lose their lock are responsible for purchasing a new school issued lock.
- Lock all personal items in your locker before reporting to the gym. All jewelry, books, book bags, chromebooks, purses, school clothes, shoes and any other personal items need to be locked securely.

Tylenol / Advil
For the period September 2016 through August 2018:
The Roxbury Township School Nurses have the permission of Advocare Skylands Orthopedics to administer Regular Strength Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen to the student per written permission from the parent/guardian.
Dosage will be according to manufacture guidelines. Medication will be administered for pain, fever above 100 degrees or headache.
This directive is applicable for students in Grades 9-12 only.
